Why KPV and VIP Are Blunting Your Gains (The Inflammation Truth)

Why KPV and VIP Can Blunt Muscle Growth

Anti-inflammatory peptides work by shutting down the same signal your body uses to repair muscle after training. They actually found that high doses of ibuprofen during training have been shown to blunt muscle growth in young lifters, and the mechanism behind that finding applies to anything that suppresses inflammation broadly.

Here is the chain you need in your head before any of this makes sense.

You train, you damage muscle fibers, and that damage releases signals that call immune cells into the tissue. Those immune cells clear the debris, then they activate satellite cells, which are the repair cells sitting on the outside of the muscle fiber waiting for a reason to fuse in and add new tissue, and without that inflammatory signal there is no call sent and no repair that follows.

So when we're blunting this immune response caused by inflammation, we're actually seeing a reduction in the results that we're looking for, because that same inflammation is something that your body needs to heal, recover, and repair, and understanding that point matters more than almost anything else in this discussion.

We have to understand that there's a difference between systemic inflammation that comes from, let's say, something like insulin resistance, poor metabolic health, which is 99% of what's causing the systemic inflammation in the Western culture, and inflammation that comes from acute injury or training, and this distinction is the part most people miss entirely.

Training inflammation is local, it has a start and a finish, and it resolves on its own in a couple of days. Systemic inflammation is the background hum that never turns off.

We want inflammation, we invite inflammation, we need inflammation, but we don't want it systemically to the point where that inflammation is creating an overproduction of reactive oxygen species in our cells and our mitochondria and putting us in a situation where we're not able to be efficient when it comes to production of ATP, and that imbalance is where the real trouble starts.

Reactive oxygen species are the byproducts your mitochondria throw off while making energy. At low levels they are a signal, and they tell the cell to build more mitochondria and get better at handling stress. At high, constant levels they damage the machinery producing them, so your cells make less ATP from the same food, and you feel that as low energy, poor recovery, and sessions that never seem to build anything.

Insulin resistance is what keeps that loop spinning, because when your cells stop responding to insulin, you push more fuel into mitochondria than they can process cleanly, they spill more reactive oxygen species, and those species interfere with insulin signaling even further.

And so when we try to solve this problem of inflammation by adding peptides, really what you're doing is you're just masking a symptom most of the time, which is coming from an insulin resistance issue. Insulin resistance, I will tell you, is the core cause of 90% of the problems that people have when it comes to mitochondrial health, overall health, and systemic inflammation.

The question that you have to be asking yourself when it comes to using any anti-inflammatory peptide, whether it be VIP, KPV, or even drugs like ibuprofen or anti-inflammatories, is what is the core cause of this inflammation? Is it systemic? Am I treating a symptom by adding this? Or am I using it specifically for something that I need to address in my body, while I also address the foundations causing that systemic inflammation? If you're not eating healthy, if you're not training in the gym, if you're not sleeping right, if you're not doing the things that you need to be doing foundationally to ensure that your body, your metabolic health, your insulin resistance, your mitochondria are functioning efficiently, and you're adding a peptide like KPV, then all you're doing is just masking a long-term symptom.
