Why I Refuse to Give You Money
One of the things that I've really tried to do since I started, let's say, becoming wealthy, and I don't even know if it's wealthy yet, rich, is being generous, being kind, giving, helping, serving.
But generosity has rules, and the first one is that money moves in one direction only, flowing toward value created rather than toward need, toward effort, or toward how badly someone wants it. How much money you earn is a reflection of how much value you're giving back into the world, and once you see it that way, the whole picture of your finances stops being a mystery and starts being a ledger.
And one of the hardest lessons, and this is something I tried to teach my daughter years ago, was the reason why you struggle with managing your money and feeling like you don't have any and you're always broke is because you're extracting from the world more than you give into it, right? And so a person who's struggling with money and a person who's struggling with resources and a person who needs a blessing of a few thousand dollars to make things right, really what that comes down to is the fact that they've failed to give to the world more than they've taken.
I know that sounds harsh, but it isn't meant that way, and it's meant to be useful instead, because if the problem is a leaking account you can patch the leak, but if the problem is that you've never learned how to put anything into the account, no amount of patching will do it.
For me, being generous with my money and having this mindset of somebody who wants to be a philanthropist and go out and help people in need, the prerequisite for me giving that is I want to give to people and help people who truly deserve it by them going out of their way to consistently and constantly show up and give to the world more than they take from it.
I understand the struggle, because I've lived through my own version of it, the stretch where nothing lands, where the car dies the same week the rent goes up.
But the lesson that I've had to learn is most of the time that tough break or that hardship or that tribulation that you're facing is most often times because you're being taught a lesson that you failed to learn in the past or that you need to learn now to make it to the next step in life.
Think about what happens when you hand someone the answer to a problem they were about to solve. They walk away with the answer but nothing else, and they don't get the ability to solve the next one, and the next one is coming.
And so by me just giving you a few thousand dollars, I'm actually doing you a disservice because I'm taking that opportunity away from you. I'm taking your ability to learn away from you.
You understand where I'm going with this? So it's not that I don't want to help you because if I could, I would go into the world and help as many people as I possibly could. And that's exactly what I do with the delivery of my content and my entire platform.
What I give away is the thing that keeps multiplying long after the moment it's handed over, because money gets spent a single time, while understanding how to create value pays every month for the rest of your life, and it pays your kids too.
But you being willing to go out of your way and ask for a blessing is me telling you that you're not grateful and not living in a place of gratitude for the blessings that God has already given you today with the opportunities that you have to learn, with the opportunities that you have to go into the world and serve, with the opportunity that you had by waking up today.
You're carrying around a mindset built on scarcity, on the instinct to receive rather than the instinct to give.
