Why PCT Fails: You Are Starting It Too Late
All right, real quick, best PCT protocol before ending and post-ending a test, EQ, and of our cycle, okay?
The way most people run it is they finish the last pin, wait for the esters to clear, and then start the recovery drugs on a fixed day, usually two or three weeks later. The drugs are right. The timing leaves a hole.
To see why that hole matters, you have to follow the chain that actually controls your natural production. Your brain has a small gland called the hypothalamus that releases a signal, which tells the pituitary to release two hormones called LH and FSH, and those two travel down to your testicles and tell them to make testosterone and sperm. When you inject testosterone, your brain reads the high blood level, assumes the job is done, and shuts that signal off at the top.
So the whole recovery problem is a signal problem. You need the hypothalamus to start talking again, and it will not do that while there is still plenty of hormone circulating.
Drugs like clomiphene and tamoxifen work by sitting on the estrogen receptors in the brain, which is what blocks the signal in the first place, so the brain reads the estrogen level as low and pushes LH and FSH back up. They are called SERMs, meaning they block estrogen in some tissues and mimic it in others depending on where they land.
Here is the timing problem. If you stop all the gear on Monday and start clomiphene three weeks later, you have a stretch where exogenous hormone is falling, your own production is still off, and nothing is driving the signal back up. That is the window where people crash, lose the weight, and feel terrible.
So most of the time when you're coming off of anything like we'll say a cycle, what you're gonna wanna do is you're gonna start phasing in the serum towards the last two to four weeks of the cycle at a lower dose, and then increasing that dose basically to, we'll say, for like in clomaphene, 25 milligrams at the time you end the cycle.
And then what you're going to do is taper off in the opposite direction for four weeks after. So we would do in clomaphene like this, same thing with like Tamoxifen, Novadex, right? Like that's kinda what we wanna do.
Picture two people handing off a load. The second one gets their hands under it before the first one lets go. That is the entire logic of tapering on while you are still tapering off the gear, because the signal never fully drops to zero and your testicles never sit completely idle for weeks at a time.
Toward the last part of the cycle you are lowering the EQ and the testosterone at the same time as you are raising the SERM, so you are replacing one driver with another. After that fourth week you are on nothing.
A lot of people will include HCG alongside the SERM, and that is completely normal. HCG acts on the testicles directly, imitating LH, so it keeps the tissue responsive while the brain is still waking up. It works from the bottom of the chain while the SERM works from the top.
If you were only on testosterone and you are going back to a TRT dose, you do not need any of this. You taper off the EQ or the anavar and settle back into your regular dose, because the signal was never coming back on anyway.
The dose numbers are the part everyone asks about, and they are the part that matters least. Nobody crashes because they used 25 milligrams instead of 50. They crash because there was a three week gap where nothing was holding the system up.
Recovery is not something you start after a cycle. It is the last phase of the cycle itself.
