It's no secret that adults who lack boundaries likely were not taught this concept when they were young. Developing boundaries starts with parents creating solid ground rules that they apply with consistency. Kids should clearly understand which actions are OK and which are not.
However, it's also important to teach children - especially daughters as they grow - that they are individuals with their own likes, dislikes and interests, and that it's perfectly fine to have personal boundaries.
Kids don't want to feel bossed around or as if their opinions don't matter. Parents need to show they're listening to their children to create a two-way street of respect. Without feeling heard and understood, children may feel the need to act out.
