Why You're Not Losing Weight on Retatrutide (The Real Fix)
Why You're Not Losing Weight on Retatrutide
So we get this question a lot. I've only lost five pounds on retatrutide, what should I do? The answer almost always comes back to what you are eating, because the drug does not create the deficit for you, it just makes the deficit easier to hold.
What should I do? Well, sir, my guess, if I was to look at you, is either you don't have very much weight to lose or you have a lot of weight to lose and you're not doing the other things that you need to be doing to get that weight down.
So remember, retatrutide is not just going to magically make you lose weight if you inject this thing into your body.
What it's effectively doing is making it easier for you to be in a calorie deficit so you can lose the weight.
It hits your system on three different fronts at once, starting with your appetite, then moving into the way your body manages the nutrients you actually eat, and finally amplifying the fat burning effects your liver has.
The appetite part comes from two of the three receptors it hits, GLP-1 and GIP, which are gut hormones that signal fullness to your brain and slow how fast food leaves your stomach, so the hunger just quietly drops off instead of you having to fight through cravings all day.
The third receptor is glucagon, and that one is the reason retatrutide behaves differently from the GLP-1 drugs most people have used before. Glucagon signaling tells your liver to pull stored fat out and burn it, which is why hepatic fat drops so sharply on this compound.
In the Phase 2 trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2023, participants on the 12mg dose lost 24.2 percent of their body weight at 48 weeks, and liver fat content fell by more than 80 percent in people who started with fatty liver.
Those are the numbers people see online and then they inject and lose five pounds and assume the compound is fake or underdosed.
However, if you are not eating enough protein and or you are still eating in an excessive calorie surplus, you will not lose weight.
Appetite suppression lowers the ceiling on how much you eat. It does not set a floor under what you eat. If your food is calorie dense enough, you can eat half the volume you used to and still land above maintenance, and the scale will barely move.
Tracking what you actually eat matters here, not forever, just long enough to see the real pattern, because almost nobody estimates it correctly.
If you have 50 or less pounds to lose, all you need to do is just decide what your goal weight is. That's how many grams of protein you need to eat per day.
Goal weight 190, you eat 190 grams of protein. The number is simple on purpose, because a target you can calculate in your head is a target you will actually use.
Protein does the heavy lifting here for two reasons. It is the most filling macronutrient per calorie, so it stacks on top of what the drug is already doing to your appetite. And it protects lean mass while you are in a deficit, which matters more on retatrutide than on anything else, because fast weight loss pulls muscle along with fat unless you give your body a reason not to.
And when I say grams of protein, I don't mean grabbing a protein shake and a fucking protein bar at the gas station and doing everything that you can to just hit that protein target in whatever way possible.
That's the lazy way of doing it.
Steak, chicken, fish, eggs, real food that used to be a living animal, that's where your grams should be coming from.
