Why Peptides and TRT Aren't Working for You (No Foundation)
Where do I start if I'm new to fitness and health optimization? I would say the most important piece that you need to start with when it comes to optimizing your fitness and health is understand that things like supplements, peptides, antibiotics, including TRT, et cetera, things that you can buy at the store to improve your performance are tools.
A tool works on a system that is already functioning, amplifying a signal that is already there, speeding up a process that is already running, filling a gap in a structure that is otherwise intact, and that is true whether we are talking about supplements, peptides, or hormone therapy. So when the underlying system is not there, the tool has nothing to amplify, and you get a fraction of the effect you paid for.
That is the whole reason peptides and TRT underdeliver for so many people.
The chain runs from the top down, and each link depends on the one before it. You eat and you absorb nutrients, you train and you create a stimulus, you sleep and your body runs the repair and hormone release that responds to that stimulus, and then over weeks the tissue you stressed comes back stronger. Supplements and compounds sit at various points along that chain and push harder on one step, but the chain itself has to already be there for that push to matter.
Growth hormone secretagogues show this clearly enough that it's worth walking through. They push a pulse of growth hormone release, and growth hormone drives IGF-1, and IGF-1 supports tissue repair. If you are sleeping five hours, most of your natural pulse is already being lost, and the protein you need to actually build with is not there, so you are pushing a signal into a system that cannot answer it.
The same logic governs TRT. Testosterone raises the ceiling on how much muscle protein synthesis you can run, and it improves recovery capacity and training drive, but it does not generate the training stimulus or the calories or the sleep that fill that ceiling. Give a man with a solid base and a hard training program a therapeutic dose and he changes. Give the same dose to a man eating 1,400 calories, sleeping badly, and training twice a week, and he mostly gets the side effects.
They're not intended and they should not be used as a foundation to build your progress and your physique and your results from.
What I see over and over is the ordering gets reversed. They build their foundations on top of these drugs, these compounds, these supplements, and then when they stop seeing meaningful results over time, the immediate go-to for them is to add more drugs, compounds, or supplements.
The logic seems to hold together if you don't look too closely at it. The compound worked at first, so if it stopped working the answer must be more of it or something stronger alongside it. What actually happened is simpler: the compound pulled forward whatever headroom the foundation had, that headroom ran out, and nothing underneath it grew to create new headroom.
This creates a vicious cycle where your well-being becomes contingent upon the availability or access to or dosing of the drugs that you're using.
That dependency is not only financial, though it is that too. It is physiological with exogenous testosterone, because the body's production shuts down while you are on it. And it is psychological with almost everything else, because once you believe the compound is why you feel good, stopping it feels like losing yourself rather than losing a tool.
Most of what I know about this came out of conversations in the free community, so if you want the rest of it and somewhere to ask, the men's group is here: https://www.skool.com/jh-iron-forge-brotherhood/about
If this is the kind of information you want access to on a daily basis, the community is free and there are full courses on training, nutrition, hormones, and supplementation inside. You can ask questions and post your own labs and get feedback from me and from the community.
