Why Most Beginners Start Retatrutide Too High (Start Lower)
Start Retatrutide at 0.5mg, Not 2mg
A lot of people call for 2mg a week of RETA to start with, and for most beginners that number is too high for a first injection. The lower starting dose costs you nothing but a few weeks, and it buys you information about how your own body handles the drug.
Retatrutide belongs to a group of compounds called incretin mimetics, which means they copy the gut hormones your body releases after a meal to tell your pancreas to put out insulin and tell your brain you have had enough. Retatrutide hits three of those receptors at once, GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon, which is why the appetite suppression tends to come on harder and faster than what people are used to from older compounds.
That triple action is also why the side effects scale the way they do.
The slowdown in stomach emptying that makes you feel full is the same mechanism that makes you nauseated when the dose outruns your tolerance, so the thing you want and the thing you do not want come from the same receptor activity. You cannot get one without risking the other. What you control is how fast you climb.
Most of the time with these peptides, it's not going to hurt to do less than the recommended dose. If 0.5mg gives you less appetite suppression than you hoped for, you have lost a week and you move up. Nothing about that week damages you.
But if you do more than the recommended dose, that's where you're gonna be dealing with problems. So be conservative, especially with the incretins.
The reason the incretins deserve extra caution compared to other peptides comes down to how long they stay in you. Retatrutide has a half life measured in days, not hours, which means the dose you inject on Monday is still substantially present the following Monday, and there is no way to pull it back out.
With a short acting compound, a bad reaction is over in an afternoon. With this one, you are committed.
And if you have a negative reaction to it, you basically have to suck it up and sit it out for a few days. There is no reversal agent, no antidote, nothing you take to cancel it. You wait for your kidneys and liver to clear it while you deal with vomiting, or a heart rate that sits higher than it should, or food sitting in your stomach for hours after you ate it.
That is the real argument for starting low. Not that 2mg is dangerous in some abstract sense, but that you have no way of knowing in advance whether you are the person who tolerates it fine or the person who spends four days unable to keep water down.
There's nothing stopping you from doing a half a milligram to see how you respond to it.
Run that dose for four weeks before you touch it. Four weeks is roughly how long it takes a compound with this half life to reach steady state, meaning the amount going in each week equals the amount clearing out, so the fourth week is the first honest read you get on what that dose actually does to you. Judging at week one is judging a drug that has not finished arriving.
If appetite suppression is adequate at 0.5mg and the scale is moving, stay there. There is no prize for being on a higher dose.
If you need more, go to 1mg, run another four weeks, and repeat. Most people find the dose that works for them well below where they would have landed if they had started at 2mg, and they get there without a single bad week.
That's going to ensure that you're doing this the safest way possible when it comes to doing these types of peptides.
