What Should You Post? How to Find Content Ideas That Work

So you guys really loved the business related content when I was talking about last week with the content strategy and how I went about building my personal brand and one of the bigger questions that came back was okay well what are some ways that I can find valuable topics to get myself started or get the ball rolling when trying to build this momentum right because the entire system that I explained last week and if you didn't watch it make sure you go back and watch that video we'll try to link it below but the whole idea behind our content strategy if that's what you want to call it is we're actually listening to what people respond to through their engagements.
This can be a couple different ways obviously the first thing is understanding that people vote with their view especially on social media and the way that these algorithms work if you think about it is Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, wherever you are their goal is to keep people on the platform and this is especially important for YouTube.
From my perspective and what I've observed is the number one thing that influences how far content will go with these social algorithms is audience retention.
So everything downstream of that is about keeping somebody watching, which starts with how you open.
While hooks are very important and you know the way that you communicate is very important too the first three seconds of that video should capture their attention but also draw their emotion which means curiosity, excitement, anger, uncertainty, whatever the case may be.
There are some content creators that are really really good at creating content and they do this well but remember their focus is just to get the view.
For you there's another nuance that you have to consider and that consideration especially for an education based creator is to actually connect with the viewer with where they are and what they want or the desired outcome that they have and then understanding what those blockers might be.
So the frame that I typically communicate through is if you insert situation frustration or desire but you insert thing or reason why they can't then this or make a contrarian statement.
So a good example of that and I'll just kind of fire off the top of my head is if you are a content creator and you're looking to start your online coaching business so I just made that connection with you and connected with the desire you have but you're having a hard time growing your audience or getting the engagement that you feel you deserve for the value you put out then so we identified that right that key frustration their feeling the objection right and then we make a contrarian statement or we kind of foreshadow the value that the video is going to talk about then it's probably not your hook or your content strategy but the frame or the value that you foreshadow with the content itself.
Right so you can see with that hook what I've done is I've pre-qualified the viewer I've connected with them emotionally with their frustration and then I've kind of told them that what they're doing is wrong without making them feel like it was criticism while also foreshadowing a potential solution to that thing right that's the frame of most of the hooks that we're communicating through so when you do this now it sets you up to go into a series of pieces of value or information where you have the opportunity to create a lot of trust and authority with that viewer and hopefully solve their problem right you know the way that that video would go is I'd say hey then it's probably not your hook or your content strategy but probably the frame that you're communicating through let me explain right so now this gives me an opportunity to actually deliver the value and then the video itself would go through hey kind of like the things I just talked about with this video you need to make sure that you're delivering value solving their problems with your content in a way that resonates with them and they can almost apply that knowledge or information immediately to get an output or result but the most important piece that most creators miss is the why okay and this is probably the biggest gap that's going to create that separation between you and every other creator out there because most of the time they do a good job with the hook they even know the answer or the solution but they do a poor job of communicating the why behind that.
People want to understand why this works, why it's important, why it's relevant, why it matters for them, and that educational piece should carry the bulk of what you deliver.
Now the type of content matters too, and the easiest way to see it is from the seat of the person scrolling.
The thing that helps someone decide whether to stay and watch is different than the thing that decides whether they follow you, which is different again from the thing that decides whether they buy from you.
I had a client named James who sent me a video with over a million views, a piece of b-roll of him hiking with a relatable caption over the top, and when I asked him to open the insights it showed over a million views, 30,000 or so shares, but less than 100 follows.
Thirty thousand shares off a single clip is nothing to dismiss, and he'd done real work to earn it by capturing attention, showing he was relatable, and meeting people where they were emotionally. Still, that content only pulled people in; it didn't keep them.
What happens next is where most creators lose the opportunity, because once somebody shares your post the algorithm starts showing them more of you, and the piece they see second is the one that decides whether they stick around.
That second piece is your middle of funnel content, and it should be the bulk of what you produce, because that's where trust gets built by actually solving the specific problems standing between somebody and the outcome they want.
Take fitness, since it's the clearest case of how this plays out. I made a reel about how frustrating it is to be in a calorie deficit while watching your strength drop on the barbell, which is the core problem most men face, and that piece casts the wide net. Then I look at the subset of problems underneath that and I teach the solutions to each one.
What builds the trust is not just the delivery or the personality, it's that the solutions actually work. That's the same reason people followed me in the first place: they consumed a little, found it legitimately helpful, saw that I served without expecting anything back, and then the algorithm fed them more until the follow happened on its own.
Gary veinerchuck has been teaching the one two punch method since day one, value value value pitch, and what I've found is that if you do your middle of funnel content well enough you actually never have to pitch anything. You leave the door open and make sure people know it's there.
Before you make bottom of funnel content, wait until people are reaching out to you, asking questions, asking for help. It's not until you get that consistently occurring in your inbox in your comments that you should even think about extracting from your audience by making an offer officially with content.
And when it starts happening, they tell you exactly what the offer should be.
When I first started Apex Medical Group our core offer was selling hormone therapy and we did maybe 30 or 40,000 the first month, which is better than most. But over time, as we kept educating, people started messaging asking whether we'd look at their labs and tell them what they meant.
Those messages became the blueprint, and the offer practically built itself around what people kept asking for: a free consultation looking over your labs with a detailed report from a clinician telling you exactly what that means, how to read the labs, what's important, the red flags, and even a specific protocol for whatever showed up on them.
That's what a lead magnet actually is: solving a low barrier problem with so much value that the person feels like they owe you something back. Most guys throw together a fat loss PDF nobody opens.
Embedded inside that free report are the opportunities to move forward with treatment, and since we introduced that offer our business tripled the very first month.
There is a longer version of this conversation inside the coaching accelerator, where I go through it with people building the same kind of business: https://www.skool.com/the-1m-coaching-accelerator-9553/about
If this is the kind of information you want access to on a daily basis, the community is free and there are full courses on training, nutrition, hormones, and supplementation inside. You can ask questions and post your own labs and get feedback from me and from the community.
