How to Stop Hair Loss on TRT Without Killing Your DHT
You can treat hair loss on TRT without taking a systemic DHT blocker, and that matters because DHT is doing a lot of work for you everywhere else in your body, so the fix needs to stay local.
Yes, and if you follow Todd Lee, I think he actually recently did a video on YouTube where he gave like a hair loss protocol for people on TRT and anabolics. But bottom line is a lot of times what will happen is you'll get these companies that advertise like DHT blockers, like finasteride, which they work, right? So the reason why we go bald is because we convert a lot of DHT. It just so happens that the, we'll say, density of those receptors in the hair follicles in the head are more higher.
It makes it so that you're more sensitive to that DHT. You have high DHT levels, you're going to start losing your hair.
So the obvious move looks like shutting DHT down. But if you do the oral or an injection, it becomes a systemic reduction in DHT, which means we lose all the positive benefits that come from high DHT, including muscle building effects and all the things that make us men.
Think of it like turning off the water main because one faucet is leaking, because sure, the leak stops, but the shower upstairs and every other tap in the house stops working right along with it.
DHT drives libido, erectile quality, and a good chunk of the strength you get out of TRT in the first place, and it binds the androgen receptor roughly three to five times harder than testosterone does. So that's really important to understand.
But the good news is if you're suffering from metal pattern baldness and you want to solve that problem for you, the hair follicles don't actually die or go away. They go dormant, sitting under the skin, shrunken down and stuck in a long resting phase, producing a hair so fine you cannot see it.
You are not regrowing something that is gone. You are waking something up.
So what you can do is rather than doing a systemic DHT blocker like finasteride, you can go with something that's more topical that you can put on the site like minoxidil. The effect stays mostly where you put it, so your circulating DHT keeps doing its job in muscle and in the bedroom.
For application you get a dermaroller. It's got like some little spikes on it and run the roller on the area where you want to treat it, then put the minoxidil on top, every single day.
The roller opens thousands of tiny channels in the scalp, which lets the minoxidil get past the outer layer of skin instead of sitting on it, and the micro-injury itself pulls growth factors into the area.
What it basically does is it's also going to increase the vasodilation, widening the blood vessels on that part of your skin. More blood flow means more oxygen and nutrients reaching a follicle that has been starved and shrinking for years.
From there it's going to increase the hair cycle, shortening the resting phase that is happening in those follicles and then also enlarge them to hopefully reactivate and help them start growing hair.
The thing that trips people up is the timeline, because a hair cycle runs in months rather than days, so you will not see much for the first eight to twelve weeks, and some guys shed more early on as dormant follicles push old hairs out to make room for new ones. That shed is the thing working.
