Why Adding IGF-1 LR3 to HGH Can Cost You Muscle

Why would I add IGF-1 LR-3 if I'm already taking HGH? Because the LR-3 extends the half-life of that drug. That extension is the whole selling point, and it is also the exact reason it works against you.

Start with the chain, because the chain is what most people skip.

Growth hormone comes out of the pituitary, travels to the liver, and the liver responds by producing IGF-1, which is the protein that actually binds to receptors on your cells and tells them to grow and repair. Growth hormone is the signal. IGF-1 is the thing that does the work.

So when you take HGH, you are not bypassing IGF-1. You are turning on the factory that makes it.

Injecting IGF-1 LR3 skips the factory and delivers the product directly, and the LR3 part is a modification that keeps it from binding to the carrier proteins in your blood that normally hold IGF-1 in reserve and release it slowly. Natural IGF-1 has a half-life measured in minutes when it is free. LR3 stretches that out to many hours.

And the problem with increasing your IGF-1 levels is it creates receptor desensitization.

Think about what a receptor is doing. It is a lock on the outside of the cell waiting for a key, and when the key shows up, the cell responds, then the receptor gets pulled inside, recycled, and put back out. That cycle assumes the key comes and goes.

Meaning this IGF-1 is just gonna sit here and hammer the receptors on your cells. The pulse never ends, so the cell stops recycling receptors back to the surface at the same rate, and the same dose produces less and less response as the weeks go on.

And so because IGF-1 is creating that desensitization on the cell or the receptors, it doesn't make sense to use long-term.

Why would I use something that's creating suppression when I can just go up the chain, do the growth hormone, and my body will produce as much IGF-1 as I want? But here's the other piece, okay? IGF-1 isn't just produced at the liver.

It is also made locally inside muscle tissue. When you train, the mechanical stress on the muscle fiber triggers that fiber to produce its own IGF-1 right there, in the tissue, where it acts on satellite cells and drives the repair and growth of the fiber that just got worked.

That local production is why hard training grows the specific muscle you trained instead of growing everything evenly.

And when we inject the IGF-1 LR-3, we lose out on the, we'll say, muscle-producing IGF-1. Blood levels go up, and the body reads those high circulating levels as a reason to dial back local output, so the signal that would have been concentrated in the muscle you just trained gets replaced by a flat, systemic level that hits everything including tissue you did not want growing.

And when that happens, now you're putting yourself in a situation where you're actually losing most of the muscle-gaining benefits that you would otherwise get if you just used the growth hormone.

The simplest version of the fix is to stop stacking and run the growth hormone alone, because it raises liver IGF-1 in a pattern that still rises and falls, and it leaves the local muscle production intact.

If you want a local IGF-1 effect, the better tool is IGF-1 DES, which is a shortened version with a very short half-life that acts on the tissue you inject near and clears before it can flatten your systemic levels or park on receptors for hours. Short pulse, local action, then gone.

The direct human evidence on DES for hypertrophy is thin, and most of what we have is animal and cell work, so treat the dosing side as less settled than the mechanism.
